Hello, my name is Emily Nielsen!
I was born and raised in Sioux Falls and have a love for this community. I have a passion for helping people find greater meaning in and peace in their lives and am so excited to be able to help this community's mental health needs.
I graduated from Fransican University of Steubenville with my Bachelors in Theology and Clinical Psychology. I then stayed at Franciscan for my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and working towards licensure in South Dakota under supervision (LPC-Supervisee).
With my background in psychology and theology, I love having a deeper understanding of a person's spiritual experiences and incorporating healing from a holistic perspective. The human person is complex and spiritual, and I find counseling is incredibly helpful when it seeks to treat and integrate the whole person, body and soul together.
I take a collaborative, practical approach in the counseling room as I help one pinpoint and name their mental health goals. A part of this is creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where you are able to speak freely and honestly about the struggles in your life. From there, we work together to find ways that get you feeling happier, healthier, and better grounded as a person. I recognize starting counseling takes extreme courage, but I know you have the courage to take that next step for yourself and for those who care about you!
