Codependency No More For Clergy Support Group Overview:

What Is Codependency?

Codependency is the unhealthy tendency and need to please others to the detriment of self. This habit was most likely developed in youth when the only way to have one’s needs met was to please the caregivers or adults in one’s life when those caregivers and other adults could not regulate for themselves. This habit can lead to bad habits like making the assumption that others should “just know” what another needs without that person expressing their needs clearly; it also leads to those who say one thing and expect the other to “read their mind” because they “should have known” they actually meant something else. Codependency can also arise in the form of substance abuse and addiction as a means of coping, and leads to other symptoms like anxiety, depression, stress, suicidal ideation, and decreased tolerance for stress and everyday activities. Reactivity is often exhibited in those with codependent tendencies due to the hypervigilance of observing another’s feelings and attempting to avoid negative circumstances by jumping to conclusions about what another person needs, leading to resentment if the other person seems unappreciative and deserving.

How Is Codependency Recovery In A Group Setting Completed?

Guided by a trained coach, you will learn and understand codependency, discuss group topics, and troubleshoot individual circumstances to learn healthier habits and clearer communication.  A Support Group will help you identify whether you have codependent habits and tendencies. It will help you express different circumstances and receive feedback from peers, and allow you a safe place to explore your relationship dynamics without judgment. Codependent No More For Clergy focuses on developing healthy emotional expression and clearly stating needs and feelings so that others can help without confusion, assumptions, resentment, and misunderstandings that lead to deep conflict. Codependency No More For Clergy also helps the individual identify how to fill one’s cup first so that burn-out and anxiety are lowered and the individual is able to remain in a helping capacity without feeling anxious, depressed, stressed, etc.

How Many Sessions Are Required?

Codependency No More For Clergy is offered as a once a week 12-week program.  Those that choose to extend their knowledge further may show interest and a Beyond Boundaries For Clergy Support Group for those that need assistance managing life beyond learning how to set boundaries as others in their life respond to their behavioral changes has been offered in the past.  Those that participate in groups are asked to do weekly readings and complete the content for each week, however, applying it and processing occurs at the participant's pace.  Some group members have returned for repeat groups, and some find one 12-week session to be enough to advance onto other content.
